VITAL TO WANGANUI

HARBOUR DEVELOPMENT '‘Harbour development is vital to Wanganui. If it is not improved it will go back. That at once means an increase in eitv rates,” declared Mr. Iv, M. Silk, president of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce, at. a recent meeting. “Any deficiency in harbour revenue is made up by Wanganui ratepayers. This will continue until the total loans are repaid.” He referred to the board’s balancesheet for last year, and commented upon the improved revenue, saying that if the harbour was not maintained, business people would realise what a loss of trade would mean. “Wo should assist the hoard in every way,” he concluded, “and see that the special report on harbour conditions, if adopted by the board, is carried to a successful conclusion.”
