A factory for the manufacture of special acoustic tiles, owned by J. 11. Carpenter, Limited, Newmarket, Auckland, was entered on Saturday night for the second time in two weeks. The lock was picked, and it is believed that the building was entered in an attempt 1,0 secure a valuable English secret, formula for the manufacture of the. tiles, for which the company holds the New Zealand rights. With the recent raising of sustenance pay, the position of the relief workers employed by the Wliangarei Harbour Board on reclamation works at Kioreroa has been considerably affected, and about 100 of the men have ceased work and gone on sustenance. Less than 20 men have remained on the job. As, by working, the men could only earn about 3s a week more than sustenance, they considered it a better proposition to do nothing and receive sustenance.
