SNAKES FIGHT

TROPHY TO THE WEAKER

MELBOURNE, Jan. 8

A desperate battle took place between two snakes in tne Australian section of the Melbourne Zoo yesterday. A medium-sized black snake began eating a frog, but its meal caught the eye of a larger black snake, which promptly seized the free end of the frog.

Then followed a determined struggle for the frog. Both snakes swallowed at the same time, but the larger snake had Ihe longer swallow. It gulped down the frog and half the smaller snake as well. That ended the duel.

The larger snake apparently felt uncomfortable, and it disgorged its adversary, still dinging to the frog. The smaller snake retired with its trophy.
