TROOPS FOR AFRICA UNVEILTN.C OF TABLET (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The thirty-seventh anniversary of the departure of the first- New Zealand eontingem for South Africa in 1899 was marked by a ceremony at St. Mary’s Church, karori, yesterday, when Viscountess Elibank unveiled a memorial tablet to the officers and men of the first contingent who died on service in South Africa and the Great War. The Mayor. Mr. T. U. A. Hislop, handed over to the First New Zealand Mounted Rifles Association, colours given bv Wellington citizens to the first, contingent on Trafalgar Day. 1899.
