R A DIO EQUIPMENT LONDON, Sept. How members of Iho recent Everest expedition telephoned from camp to camp find soul nows nl their pi ogress is illustrated hv apparatus shown at the Radio Exhibition at Olympia. In the various camps up to :M,ofl()ft. a combined received and transmitter, little larger than a box camera, was. used. The resemblance to a camera is increased by tripod mounting. Amid the desolation of Everest the use of' this apparatus spoke hi to a. hand microphone exactly similar to that used for Post Office telephones. A telescopic rod serves as aerial. Normally, only short ranges can be covered, 1 ill on the five rest expedition communication over a distance ol about 100 miles was accomplished, from the base camp to Darjeeling.
