TRAGIC CRASH

The mishaps which dogged several of the competitors in the PortsmouthJohannesburg air race culminated in a tragic crash of Mr. Ken Waller's Airspeed Envoy at Abercorn, in Southern Rhodesia, about 90 miles from Salisbury. Flight-Lieut. Max Findlay, the copilot of the machine, and Mr. Morgan, tho wireless operator, were killed. Mr. Waller and a mechanic, Mr. Peachy, are suffering from shock. Tho machine crashed while taking off. Previously it was reported that the plane had been delayed by. severe storms between Juba ■ and Kisumu. - ■ ■ - FEARS FOR DUTCHMEN WEST AUSTRALIA SEARCH POSSIBLE FATAL CRASH (Reed. Oct. 2, noon.) PERTH, Oct. 2. An extensive aerial search yesterday of the country near Kalgoorlie failed to reveal any. Sign of W. Rous and If. Van Beekman, two Dutch airmen who had been missing since Wednesday morning. A land party left. Kalgoorlie to investigate a theory that the plane crashed at a spot where fire was seen, some 60 miles from Kalgoorlie, and that the missing men had been incinerated. The Dutchmen were making a holiday flight around Australia.
