Mr. G. T. Thurston, Christcburcb. who attended the International Labour Conference at Geneva as the New Zealand Labour movement's 1 nominee, has returned to New Zealand.
Major-General C. W. F. Melville, who has a distinguished Army record as a medical officer, will arrive at Atfckland from Sydney by the Wanganella on Tuesday. Mr. Hector Bolitho, the New ; Zealandborn biographer, now domiciled in England, is to be one of the contributors to the official Coronation souvenir programme, [proceeds from the sale of which are to go to King George's Jubilee Trust.
Mr. Hugh McWilliam, who has resigned the managership of the Hawera branch of Newton King, Limited, after occupying the position for six years, has been appointed manager of the Wairoa branch of Messrs. Williams and Kettle, Limited. He takes up his now duties on November 1.
A distinction which so far only a few people in New Zealand are entitled to share has been gained by Mr. Maurice Fell, headmaster of St. * George's Preparatory School, Wanganui, who was successful recently in passing an examination .in Wellington for his* yacht master's certificate.
Mr. T. A. Duncan, the well-known racehorse owner, who is chairman of the Meat Board, planned to leave for Australia, shortly to see his filly Oratory racing at Caulfield, but a few days ago be received word from the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, asking him to leave for England with the Minister, as his services as chairman of the Meat Board would be required at Home.
Mr. A. F. Excell, lately manager of the Commercial Brmk of Australia's branch in Hawera, has arrived in Gisborne to take over the management of the branch here from Mr. <j. B. Nobbs. Mr. Nobbs, who will have charge of the Westport branch, is expected to leavo Gisborne on Monday for his new district. He lias been in Gisborne for three years, and has made a host of friends here who will regret his departure, while congratulating him upon his advancement, the Westport branch being an important link in the Commercial Bank's New Zealand organisation. Mr. Excell was one of the staff with which the Gisborne branch was opened several years ago, and also .has a wide acquaintance in Poverty Bay, Mrs. Excell being the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Robertson, Russell street.
