The accused was charged with the theft of a fur coat, a bridge coat, a costume, and a frock, to a total value of £3O, from the dwelling of Mayzie Myers at Milford, and also with the thMt of a suit length, valued at £1 ids, the property of Robinson Brothers. The accused pleaded g" t 0 tlie first charge and not guilty to the second. The police said that the accused worked next door to Mrs. Myers. The homo of the latter was burnt down while she was at the races on December 2 last. On September 2 last, Mrs. Myers saw the accused wearing her fur coat in Queen street. Mr. Meek, who appeared for the accused, said she was a half-caste ncgress and had not 'been living with her parents for some time. She was unfortunate in the company she had been keeping. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., said the accused'had been sent to a Borstal institution because of a very clever theft committed in Gisborne. Probation was out of the question. The accused was a dangerous girl anil would have to be kept under control. He declined to grant probation.
