A national scheme of tuberculosis eradication in respect of dairy herds was urged on humanitarian grounds by Mr. W. M. Webster, veterinarian, of .Massey College, when addressing women's organisations.

lie said it had been established beyond dispute that a large proportion of nonpulinoiiary tuberculosis, particularly in children, ' was of bovine origin. This type of infection was crippling and disabling, rather than fatal in the majority of eases, but anything that could be done to reduce the risk which children ran should he undertaken without hesitation.

Mr. Webster stated that between 1 per cent and 2 per cent of the milk retailed in New Zealand for human consumption was infected, and constituted a menace to children.
