Souti, Canterbury discloses a small drop on 12C farms, North Otago with 40 farms is t about equal with ffixt- year, Otago shows 'an increase on 40 farms, and in Sotitu ‘‘land the acreage' on ten farms is a.bou the same as last year. - Over-all, the committee’s survey in dicatcs that the decrease in acreage wil be rather less than 10 per cent. This position, it ik .considered, has been largely brought* about by the unfavourable spring weather this year in many of the.grain growing .districts, the ex eessive moisture preventing growers from working their land.

"The reduction in acreage is more apparent than real,” said an Auckland grain and produce merchant, “as this annual survey usually errs on the low side.”
