Blending romance, and action, into a splendid whole, "Hi Gancho!" KKO-, Radio's screen musical, now at the King's Theatre, presents a. faithful picture of warm-blooded, reckless life in the Argentine divring its pioneer 'days. The background of the picture is highly colom'ful. The romance is between a gaucho and an aristocratic senorita. Following the first meeting of the youthful hem and heroine, when they dance together, serenades, balcony scenes and a, kidnapping add to the iovo interest, balanced by exciting chases, bucking horses, stage-coach hold-ups, arrests and battles. .John Carroll, a new screen "find,"' plays the romantic lead 1 , with Steffi Dnna. as his opposite. Rod . I.a Kocque also has a prominent part. The second feature is "Love Before Breakfast," a comedy of modern manners. The star. Carole Lombard, who is at her best in gay, sophisticated, stories, began to play in' Elms in 1923 and rose steadily from small bits to featured parts. REGENT THEATRE "SPEED" Unique in that it. depicts an en-' tirely new phase of American life, "Speed,'' the current attraction at the Regent Theatre, is a swiftlymoving drama of romance and action, .lames Stewart, Wendy Barrio, Una Merkel, and Wcldbn Heyburn arc in the leading- roles. The story is that of a young- mechanic and test dyjver (.Tames Stewart), who, while iii the employ of a large motor manufacturing firm, invents a new iype of carburettor which he hopes will revolutionise the- motor world. Much to his disgust, however, Weldon Heyburn, a. fellow-employee and keen rival in love, is detailed by the firm to assist him in his inventions. Heyburn insists that the carburettor is perfect, but during a big trial race the car lias a smash and Stewart is injured. When the girl in the case (Wendy Bnrrie), who later turns nut to be the niece of the owner of the automobile plant, tells Stewart that it; was site who arranged for Heyburn to work with him, he is considerably annoyed, and demands a new coworker. How the invention is finally completed, its value proved, and the various love tangles unravelled is both exciting and spectacular. —"Mr. Deeds Goes to Town."— The celebrated comedy, r 'Mr. Deeds Goes to Town," featuring Gary Cooper, Jean Arthur, H. B. Warner, and other noted stars, will commence at the Regent Theatre on Friday. The plans are now open. i MAJESTIC THEATRE "THE PAY-OFF" "The Pay-off." now at the Majestic Theatre, describes the adventures of Joe McCow'au honest sports reporter, whom the gambling fraternity can neither bribe nor intimidate. The sports writer is very much in love with his wife, a beautiful sophisticated woman, in whom he believes implicitly. He is not only blind to her faults but also to the love of one of his 1 fellow newspaper women. While he is on a trip he is double-crossed by his wife, who plays* into the. hulhcte of. a (rambler, gi'vitfg him so many 1.0.
