NEW MEMBERS ELECTED
At a meeting of the Gisborne Rowing Club's executive, held last evening, a. number of matters relating to the earlyseason activity were dealt with. There were present '.Messrs. A. F. Allen, club captain, K. A. Bell. S. Bruce. L. Winsianley, -I. Zachariah, A. Paine, ami R. Coleman, lion, secretary.
The nominations of' Messrs. K. W. Bright and R. I'erston were approved for active membership.
Attention was drawn to the necessity for chili members locking the premises whin leaving them vacant, the captain mentioning thai on several occasions recently the clubhouse had been left open, courting danger of interference with the valuable plant. The secretary was instructed lo post a notice reminding oarsmen that, it is the duly of the last man leaving the premises to lock up.
Four alterations to crews were confirmed by the committee in connection with the First Trial Fours series. W. A. Bell was placed in D. Jones' crew to replace 8. Hill, the latter being transferred to C. McLernon's four. The mutual transfer of P. Secats and J. Short was also confirmed, Sceats taking •i seat in P. Gavin's crew, and Short replacing him in 8. I'ruce's boat Messrs. L. YVinstanley and K.A.Bel] were appointed a, visiting committee for the ensuing week. POVERTY BAY CLUB MEETING Ob 1 COMMITTEE The newly-elected committee of the Poverty Bay Bowing Club met for the rirst time on Monday evening, there being present R.. Neilson, chairman, F. Gardner, W. Clover, CI. Hadwen, A. Jukes, C. Ardent, W. McLeod, I). Brown, and 1%. Webb. Jn welcoming the committee, the chairman referred to the good work accomplished by the old committee, lie noted with pleasure that they had all been reelected. Seven new club members were nominated and elected, Messrs. E. Batson, C. Scholium, J. McCormaek, T. Hughes, C. Varley, J. Bradley and N. Beeeher. This makes a total of 14 new members to date. Several others have signified their intention of joining the club. The same social committee as last year was elected and its first social function will lie a dance to be held in the clubhouse next Monday evening. Invitations have been sent, out and a record number of dancers is expected. It was mentioned that the Hag five-hundred evenings were i
still very popular and it- was decided to keep them going. The chairman remarked that a working bee would be held at tile shed on Saturday afternoon to place sand on the staging, and he asked that members should give some help. All old members, new members and intending new members were asked to attend at the clubhouse next week-end. The. list for the First Trial Fours has been posted in the clubhouse and closes during the week-end, when the crews will be picked. Strokes for the ensuing year will be selected and notified before the list closes. Considerable discussion took place on the subject- of the clubs holding a oneday regfitta instead of the two regattas at present held. Various arguments were placed before the committee, whose decision will he placed before the annual meeting of the East Coast Rowing Association on Saturday evening.
