Falck, at a meeting of the South Island Motor Union Mutual Insurance Association, in pointing out that in Now Zealand last, year there were 168 fatal road accidents, involving 178 deaths. To-day in Great Britain there were approximately .ICO deaths a week from the same cause; in America there were 36,000 deaths last year,' and in New South Wales, last year, an average of 10 persons were killed every week. Mr. Falck added that last year’s report gave the total number of claims paid by insurance companies gazetted under the compulsory Third Party Act, at £239,554, being £177,000 in excess oi.' the previous record, the loss ratio representing 136 per cent of the premiums. These payments were in respect to personal injury only, and not in consideration of any property damage done.
