INFANTRY VETERANS
WELLINGTON REGIMENT ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES The third annual general meeting of the Gisborne and .East Coast district Veterans’ Association of the Wellington Infantry Regiment, K.Z.E.F., was held in the Selvyn Hail last, evening. The president, Col. R, F. Gambrill, occupied tho chair. Prior to tiie routine business, the meeting stooj in silence as a gesture of;sympathy with tho relatives of Messrs. R. P. Coo to and P. L. Lewis, members of the association who died during the year. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the vice-president, Mr. P. Gordon, mentioned that the association roll totalled 180. He expressed appreciation of the co-operation given during the year in the activities■ of the association and appealed for continued support by all residents of the district who had served with the regiment during the Great War. He referred to the district reunion held in Gisborne in June and to the visit of a party of 24 organised by the association to the annual reunion of tho regiment in Palmerston North. After the payment of expenses out of the subscriptions for the Palmerston North visit, there remained a. small credit balance, which had been set aside for future excursions to that reunion.
Referring to finance, Mr. Gordon said that the association co-operated with the R.S.A. in the sale of tickets of the Central Military Command art union, and as a result of the allowance made to individual sellers being donated by them to the association funds, the sum of £3 lin'd nieen received. This, together with the association subscriptions of Is per member, provided sufficient revenue to leave n. substantial credit balance for the year, the administration expenses having been only £2 12s 6d. Mr. Gordon expressed appreciation of the efficient and enthusiastic work carried out by the boil, secretray, Mr. G. B. Carter, to whom, he said, thanks were also due. for providing a comfortable orderly room in which was held the six meetings of the committee during! the year. Mr. Gordon also voiced appreciation of the work of the treasurer, Dir. C. Mitchell, anil all members of the committee.
Tho election of officers resulted as follows : —President, Colonel B. F. Gambrill : vice-president, Mr. P. Gordon; trustees, Messrs. C. A, Harries and C. Mitchell; lion, auditor, Mr. D. Faram; lion, secretary and treasurer, Dir. D. McLeod ; lion, secretary-organiser, Mr. G. B. Carter; commitee, Messrs. Carter, W. K. Rennie, O. Mitchell, W. If. James, J. Dongall, and O. 11. Robinson.
The loyal and efficient service given to the association in secretarial and organising work by Mr. Carter was referred to in terms of praise by Col. Gambrill. on whose motion the meeting accorded a vote of thanks to Mr. Carter in appreciation of his activities and also of his courtesy in placing the orderly room at the disposal of the committee. Thanks for tho use of a meeting room were also extended to Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Rennie.
Following a, lengthy discussion, the incoming committee was recommended to again organise a district reunion. The committee was also recommended to again organise a visit by a district party to the regimental annual reunion at Palmerston North.
