At a committee meeting of the Gisbome Amateur Athletic and .Harrier Club held ill the club's rooms during the week-end, there were present rUessrs. W. M. Wildish. chairman, L. Barker, lion, secretary, E. Chambers, F"i Gavin, R, .7. Quinn, M. Taylor, T. K. Gordon, T. Leslie, lion, treasurer, and F, J. Algie. , A vote of condolence was passed wdli the relatives of the late. Mr. H. Heeney.
Importing on tho recent dance held by the club, Mr. Chambers stated that the function had proved most enjoyable. Tin's was the. premier public performance of the club's new orchestra, a body whose, first appearance had given every cause For satisfaction. It was gratifying that the club's initiative in beginning or rather resuscitating, the orchestra—for there had formerly been a. strong musical body in the club—had proved successful, and t it was confidently hoped that next winter they would have a musical combination of high standard. On the chairman's motion, the. club's heartiest thanks were extended to the orchestra and conductor. Mi\ C. Dawson, and to the ladies who had assisted at the dance. THE PAST SEASON
Taking the opportunity of reviewing the operations of the past, season, the chairman staled that a succession of wet Tuesday evenings, when the weekly track meetings were scheduled to take place, had greatly interfered with the club's activities. Only about half the usual number of floodlight meetings had been held. Nevertheless, some splendid meetings bad been held with good times registered and close finishes. Teams had been .sent to Napier and Opotiki, whilst Hawke's Bay athletes had appeared an Gisbome. Messrs G. Quran and L. Grey had represented the Hawke's Bay-Pov-erty Bay centre at the Dominion championship's in Dunedin and had both secured places, Quinn sustaining his reputation as, a, sprinter and Grey as a vaulter. Botb athletes had benefited considerably from the experience gained by competing against the best of their respective classes in the Dominion. The many cups ami trophies won in the past season wire allocated. :\]y. Barker intimated that owing to pressure of work lie would not be able to continue as secretary for the coming season. The chairman expressed regret tit Mr. Barker's resignation and thanked l.im for his good work. The Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay centre also wrote expressing regret at Mr. Barker's resignation and commenting or. the happy relations existing between the club and the centre.
The annual meeting was fixed for Tuesday, October 6. The draft annual report and statement of accounts were approved. The chairman entertained members at afternoon lea. ami thanked them for their co-operation during the past year. Members congratulated the chairman on his conduct of the business and Ihe meeting concluded with mutual expressions of goodwill.
