SHORTAGE OF MACHINES
AERO CLUBS HANDICAPPED AMPLE PUPILS OFFERING STATE AID WANTED (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. The rapid growth of interest in air activities in New Zealand has led to an acute shortage of aeroplanes to meet the demand, according to Mr. S. E. Niclson, secretary of the New Zealand Aero Club. Mr, Xielson emphasised the fact that something would have to be done to increase the number of machines in the Dominion. Never in the history of the aero club movement in New Zealand has there been such a large number of pupils offering, nor such keenness to continue flying among pilots who gained their tickets, he said. "li is unfortunate that Lhe Government has not been able to supply chilis with any machines on loan for more than two years. There are waiting lists of pupils in every elnb. and these, are composed of the best type of youth in the country, all of military age. Clubs throughout the Dominion are hoping that at the conclusion of the present air conference in Wellington the Government will be in a position to define its policy and assist clubs to lake advantage of the line material offering for training firstclass pilots."
