Condemned by the Depart men!, of Agriculture because of the incidence of Johnes disease, I(),'i head of Jersey cattle in the Kaupokonui Otakoho district have been .slaughtered as a precaution against the spread by .contagion. For some years pasl the farm and herd have been under certain retsrictions by tho department in an endeavour to eliminate the diseased animals one by one, but the infection of soil made the task difficult. Tho drastic, action of destroying the whole herd resulted from a change of ownershin of the herd. Compensation has been arranged under the Stock Act.

Tho farm is to be closed to cattle for several years.

The incidence) of .lolnies disease in 12 oilier herds ill the Unworn district is known to Iho department, which is arranging for u fully qualified veterinarian to be stationed here for special work.
