NEW COMMISSIONER MR. LAURKNSON'S CAREER Mr- George Laurenson, who has been appointed Commissioner of "' succession to Mr. G. C. Godfrey, retoed, was bom in Lyitelton and was educated there and at Wellington College, Ht omed the Public Works mi engineering cadet m 1911. Rons 1916 to 1919 he sewed overseas with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Befrig attached to the 3rd lucid Company, New Zealand Engineers. Returning to New Zealand, he continued with the. He was for some time tfngftged on irrigation works in Central Otago, and was later associated with the survey ana construction of the North Auckland Main Trunk railway. Other works on which he was engaged were railway construction in the Tauranga district, and railway and road construction and surveys on "the West Coast of the south Island He'was for some tune harbour engineer at Westport.
