Light to moderate south-west to north-west breezes were general. The barometer had commenced a rising movement. Temperatures at f» O'clock were: Auckland, Gisbornc and Napier f>7 degrees, Taurangn and Opotiki. '>',, East Cape fill, and Wellington 53. Moderate or smooth seas were reported everywhere. Last Night's Porecast A shallow depress' oll j s located north-east of East Cape, and is moving away eastwards, while a moderate westerly depression is crossing the .South island. A slight depression is also crossing Tasmania to-day, but an anticyclone covers the greater part of Australia, and extends on to the North Tasman Sea. Winds, northwesterly at first in the Cook Strait area, but otherwise south to westerly prevailing, force light to moderate but soon freshening somewhat. Seas: New Zealand waters, rather rough south of East Cape and rising somewhat on the west coast of the North Island, otherwise-slight to moderate. In the Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to fresh south-westerly winds, later veering temporarily to westerlies in the southern portion; seas moderate to rather rough. Weather cool and changeable, with scattered passing showers in most districts, improving, however, to-morrow, bill only temporarily in the western and far southern portions of the South Island. Midday Forecast. General Inference.—A series of second-oi-v depressions is crossing the south Tasman Sea. and New Zealand. An ante cyclone covers Australia and extends on to the north Tasman. Forecast-.—Moderate southerly winds, veering temporarily to westerly am freshening. Weather, fair at first, but later some showers ami becoming colder again. Sens, slight to moderate.
