CRICKET CLUBS

OLD BOYS-GISBORNE ANNUAL MEETING AMALG AMATION BENEFITS "For the purpose of fostering cricket in,this district the Poverty Bay Cricket Association inaugurated a scheme at the beginning of the season whereby the senior competition was divided into two divisions, the A division being limited to four teams," stated the chairman, Mr. P. W. Nolan, in presenting the annual report at last evening's meeting of the combined Old Boys and Gisborne Club Cricket Clubs. ' There was a large attendance of members and prospective members. "This scheme forced, some radical changes in the clubs playing ' cricket," continued the report. "One result was that the Old Boys Cricket Club and the Gisborne Club Cricket Club decided on a basis of part amalgamation. The combined clubs entered a team in both divisions of the senior competition, the A team being known as Old Boys and the B team as Gisborne Club. The players were chosen for each team-according to merit and as a result reasonably strong teams were, entered in both divisions, although from a championship points point of view the results were not quite so satisfactory. From the poirit of view of enjoyment of. the game by the players individually- the "amalgamation- was eminently satisfactory; "The club's congratulations are extended to the City Cricket Club, which a"ain meritoriously carried off the Barry Cup. the Marist Cricket Club in annexing the Cranney Cup, and the Civil Service club, which won the competition in the B grade.
