CHASE BY POLICE
TWO YOUTHS IN OAR ONE PRESENTS:.FIREARM WARNING BY MAGISTRATE (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this.day. The story of two youths who, in" a" converted motor car, were chased by a police car early on the morning of August 31 was told in.the Police Court to-day. One boy is to be dealt'with in the Children's Court. The other, William Joseph Mirko, aged 17 years, to-day pleaded guilty to charges of unlawfully converting two cars and stealing a rug and a handbag and being in possession of a revolver, and inciting the other youth to commit an ofi'enr-e by attempting to discharge a firearm at Detective Bradv.
The evidence showed that the police in a patrol car observed the erratic course of a car passing the Newton police, station, and gave a lengthy chase at terrific speed. Reaching Avondale, one of the occupants of the fleeing car presented a revolver at the police, luit no shots were fired. The car pulled up off the metal and two youths .lumped a fence, and in an attempt to make them stop, the police fired three shots.
Later, -Mirko was found in Victoria road and subsequently his companion was found at home. " ". "*-
The police said that the accused had admitted entering a nursing home the same night. A nurse sat up in bed ami screamed, and they beat a hasty retreat.
