Dunedin—Sept. 25: Arrived, Canadian Challenger, 8 a.in., from Bluff; Narbada, 11 a.m., from Timaru.
Mr. Robert Roderick McKay, a resident of Waipu, Whangarei, died a few days ago, aged 64. He was a son of the late .Mr. Jonathan McKay, the first storekeeper of Waipu.
Mr. Peter Hockley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hockley, Gisborne, left towards the beginning of t ile week to join the staff of the Railway Department ill Napier. For the past 18 months "Mr. Hockley was in the otlice of the. Gisborne Refrigerating Company, and then he went for two weeks to the Gisborne railway station before being sent lo Napier.
Five Gisborne competitors, J. A. Cyril Fleming, 11. B. Watt, 0. S. Burt, L. Lunken, and M. Taylor, took part recently in the golf tournament held on the Mutt links, Wellington, by tile North Island Licensed Victuallers’ Association, and Mr. Fleming was successful for the second time in winning the. highly-prized D.C.L. Shield. At a meeting after the games had been played it. was decided to hold the tournament next year in Auckland. It is understood that the. tournament will be held in Gisborne, in 1938. In addition to winning the shield, Mr. Fleming annexed the Mcllrnith Trophy and the Wanganui. Cup, while Mr. Watt was the runner-up in the retailers’ section and the winner of the Gilbey Cup, and Mr. Lunken tho winner of the. wholesalers’ section, tho Percy Quill Clip and miniature, and the Norman Field tankard,
