Lord of the Admiralty, Sir Suniuel lloare, is'to make an important statement on the British rearmament policy at the annual conference of the Conservative Party at Margate next week. Newspapers anticipate that he will announce that the Government is determined to carry through its rearmament programme until the defences of the Empire are fully secured. The Morning Post says the speech is likely to assume particular import since ia view of the suggestions that proposals for the stabilisation of armaments are likely to be made shortly by some of the Continental Powers whose defences already are approaching the maximum strength.
