WRECKERS RAID ’DROME
THREE PLANES DAMAGED POLICE HUNT IN DARKNESS LONDON, July 20. Police are investigpling a, mysterious night raid at Witney aerodrome, in which three machines belonging to members of the Witney-Oxfoid Aero Club were badly damaged. The discovery was made when Mr. A. Russell, a. wireless instructor at the aerodrome, returned early on Saturday morning to put his car in a hangar, it is believed that the intruders were frightened away by his arrival.
Police and members oT the aerodrome staff searched the grounds for several hours in the darkness before dawn. Five other machines were undamaged. Flying was suspended on Saturday, but yesterday these machines were pronounced safe and flying was resumed. No further damage lias been discovered. The planes, which were slashed, aro being repaired, but will not be in commission for about a week. The directors state, that, although important developments are taking place at the aerodrome, no secret aircraft is in production.
