Tangible results of To Puoa Herangi’s dream to build a fleet of seven great canoes for the centenary were seen at Waingaro on Saturday. Sufficient work has been done on the first of them for two sections of the roughly shaped and hollowed hull to be hauled out of the bush and to be taken to tho pa at Ngaruawaliia. It is many years since a great canoe was built in New Zealand. The whole canoe will be about 90ft. long. It will be named Te Winaka, and for a very good reason, for Te Winaka was a famous canoe in the early days.
