PALESTINE SKIRMISHING

CORPORAL KILLED MARTIAL LAW EXPECTED JERUSALEM, Sept. 23. Lance-Corporal Merry, of the York and Lancaster Regiment, was killed in a skirmish with an armed Arab band near Rama. After report's that the Arab higher committee has rejected King Ibn Saud's advice to call off the strike and is preparing a proclamation declaring its determination to continue it, the first emergency reinforcements from England, numbering 1400 men, reached Haifa at 5 o'clock this morning. An announcement regarding martial law is expected this week-end.
