GISBORNE CLUB ANNUAL MEETING KEEN INTEREST SHOWN There was a large attendance of members of the Gisborne Lawn Tennis Club at the annual meeting, held in the "Mary Elizabeth" tea-rooms last evening, the president, Mr. N. H. Bull, occupying the chair. More interest than usual was displayed in the meeting in that a number of young members expressed their views on various subjects affecting the control of club affairs, as a result of which a motion was passed fixing the annual subscriptions of intermediate player's, 18 to 21 years, at CI lis 6d for men and £1 Is for ladies. This decision was made, with a view to further supporting the younger players, giving intermediates just leaving school the opportunity of taking up the game at a subscription within-their means.The club has made provision for three separate types of players. The subscription rates are: Students, under 18, 10s; intermediate players, 18 to 21 years, £1 lis 6d "for men and'£l'ls for ladies ; over' 21 years, £3 3s for men and £2 5s 6d for ladies. BETTER FINANCIAL POSITION In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Mr. Bull said that the committee was to be congratulated on its efforts during the past year. The club's financial position had been considerably improved. The motion was seconded by Mr. D. E. Chrisp and carried unanimously. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow :—President, Mr. D. E. Chrisp; vice presidents, Messrs. N. H. Bull C. L. Margolioulh, R. U. Burke, L. T. Burnard, and R. W. B. Willock; committee, Messrs. H. \V. Tingey, W. Kohn, A. Shorland, L. Reed and P. Willock; delegates to the Poverty Bay and East Coast. Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs. Shorland and Maude: iron, secretary and treasurer, Mr. M. R. Maude; hoii. auditor, Mr. P. W. Barlow. The committee includes three new members, Messrs. Tingey, Reed and Willock. "Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring president, and committee members. Regarding the prospects for the coming season, it was considered that everything augured well. Several applications for membership had been received. As a result of the excellent work of the groundsman, Mr. D. Sheahan, the courts were in fine order. A recommendation was made to the incoming committee that more inter-club matches should be sought so that in addition to the leading players less skilful members would have the opportunity of meeting players from other clubs. The meeting concluded with votes of thanks to the groundsman, to the chair, and to the proprietors of the "Mary Elizabeth."
