MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS

CANADA AND N.Z. VIEWS OF MR. BENNETT TRIBUTE TO PROGRESS (Per Pross Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. Speaking at n luncheon tendered to Mr. R. B. Bennett, ox-Prime Minister iif Canada, the Prime .Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. .). Savage, suid that Canada had many problems similar to those in New Zealand. He added that lie was looking to the time when representatives of the British commonwealth of nations would be assembled around one table, at which they vvouU. remain as long a.s there -were problems to solve. Replying, Mr. Bennett said that he had been impressed with the progress Now Zealand had made. There was first of all the problem of overproduction, and in recent times the problem of distribution. One of the difficulties in the British Empire w;i. that satisfactory trade agreements were desired, to be made between countries producing substantially the same things. Canada exported butter and New Zealand had taken Canada's cheese market. The difficulties of international trade could not be solved by adjusting commodity balances. Mr. Bennett said he did not think that autocracy would be substituted for democracy in the British Dominions. There had to be sufficient education so that the magnitude of the issues to he faced could be understood. In an age of unrest and doubt, there was this characteristic of the British Dominions —they sought a common end of ends, but by different methods.

Mr. Bennett said he thought New Zealand could not maintain the progress it had made with its present limited population.
