(Herald Correspondent.) In connection with the proposal to place, a floodgate at the river mouth at Okarito harbour in order to keep the channel open bv sluicing away the shingle, it is recalled that this was once proposed for the Wairoa River, but it was never seriously entertained, as the enormous volume of water in flood time would carry nv/nv anv such works.
The contractors and sub-contractors for the. erection of the new police station and lock-up in Wairoa are putting the finishing touches to the work. Though they were of mixed colours aud sexes, they appeared a line lot, and on a rising market should bring satisfactory figures. Mrs. F. Townshend and Mr. F. ,T. B. Townshowl, Wellington, are visitors to Morere. —Mr. W. Henshaw, To Kniti, is visiting Wairoa. —Mr. A. C. Wen don, Christchurch, is making a motor tour of the Napier-Wairoa-Rotorua main highway, and will stay for a few days at Tuai. —Mr. V. E. Winter, who lias been visiting Napier, returned on Wednesday.
