Taronga Zoological Park’s veteran, Jessie, tiro Elephant, celebrated another milestone in her serene life yesterday. Attired in special Indian robes, the elephant paraded among delighted children. At a climax, Jessie blew out 64 candles on a birthday cake, and portions of the cake were distributed among the children* The, chairman of the Taronga Park Trust, Colonel Alfred Spain, said yesterday that he believed Jessie was the oldest working elephant in the world. During her 55 years at (lie zoo she hail carried about 1,500.000 children and bad walked about 44,500 miles on the rides in her special a*ena. She was a happy, docile beast, and bad won the affections of countless children.
