monthly meeting

Tt was a glorious day on Friday when Mrs. McLeod presided over 25 members and several visitors at the August, meeting of the Whatatutu Women's Institute. All present listened with pleasure to Mrs. Howard’s report of the. Dominion conference, and especially Sister May Gardiner’s appointment to the executive. Many personal experiences narrated by tile delegate gave the moot-, ing some idea of the happy time spent in New Zealand's “Auld Reekie.” Mrs. McLeod, on behalf of the institute, congratulated Mrs. Howard cm Her report, and then moved that a note of sympathy lie sent to Sister May Gardiner on"the recent death of her mother. After this, Mrs. Hunter, who to the regret of everyone is leaving the district,, was presented with a crystal bowl as a token of friendship and the good wishes of her fellow-members, the company singing "For She’s a Jolly Good Pellow." Mrs. -T. Blair’s lecture on "The Development of the Blanket System” caused keen interest. She remarked on the number of bonny children present and praised the Women’s Institute.as a social movement. Mrs. Blair was thanked by the president. The roll call for the day was "Mv favourite heroine in fiction,” and flic amusement, musical parcels, won by Miss King, and mystery parcels, which helped to swell the funds. The motto was "Springtime mints her golden daffodils.”

The competitions resulted: —DalVodils. Airs. Howard, 1; Airs. Cleaver, 2; Mcsdames King and Alurray, 3. Summer jumper.—Mrs. Jackson, 1; Airs. Cleaver, 2; Mcsdames Alurray and McLeod, 3. Turkish Delight,—Airs. AleLeod, 1; Mrs. Alurray, 2; Mrs. Cleaver, 3. A most, enjoyable afternoon tea Was partaken of. provided by the hostesses, Alesdames King, Gatikrodger, and J. Moore.

The meeting concluded with the sing ing of the National Anthem.
