Won In Record Time

THE Nuffield Trophy Race.* now an A important event 1:1 England .trocars up to 1500 c.c. and run on a handicap basis according to cylinder capacity whether supercharged or not, was this year held over 00 laps of the

famous Douington Park road circuit, and was won by C. E. 0. Martin in a 1500 e.e. E.R.A. Similar cars manned •by A. C. Dobson and P. A’. Whitehead finished second and third respectively. The winner’s average speed was <3.8.50 miles per hour, a record for the race.

In its earlier stages, the race was dominated by the three wonderfully fast 744 e.c. overhead valve Austins, which made their debut this year, but these cars, although much faster than anything else in their class, retired from one cause and another, before the race was finished.

The race attracted a good number of entries and, besides a big E.R.A. contingent and the three overhead valve Austins, and a sidevalve model of the same make, driven by the now famous Bira, there were a number of Rileys and M.G.’s, and a solitary Maserati.
