I HIGHEST FOR YEARS YESTERDAY'S HOGGET PRICE The price of 29s lOd for a pen of woollv ewe hoggets nt the Matawhero stork'sale yesterday was the highest Cor this class of sheep in this district for some years, and. in fact, farmers and stock dealers can remember no better since pre-slnmp times. The pen which secured 29s lOd was one of 266 from a lino of 560 ewe hoggets offered on account of Mr. D. Mills, Makauri. They were in nice order, and ike size of the line made them attractive. The 20G were woollv. and the balance of 297, which brought 2Ss 7d, were shorn. They were purchased by a Palmersion North buyer. MATAWHERO PIG MARKET VALUES ADVANCE Competition was keen in the pig section of the Matawhero stock sale yesterday. A buyer from Wairoa was operating and consequent upon the goo.l demand prices advanced considerably. BREEDING EWE DEMAND INQUIRY FROM WAIBATO The seasonal demand, is being made from the Waikato for Gisborne breeding ewes for delivery early in the New Year. A few small sales are reported at prices firm on those of last season, but most vendors and'buyers appear to be waiting for a. better idea of values before committing themselves. Offers made by'Waikato buyers are -considered too low by most Gisborne farmers who make a practice of forward selling, with the result that sales have been difficult to make. BULLS FROM QUARANTINE ALL BLACKS POR GISBORNE Three Aberdeen Angus bulls, which 'wore recently imported from Scotland for Mr. W. Clark, Opou, Gisbome, will be taken from the Wellington quarantine station on Soames Island duruig the week-end, and will be loaded on to the s.s. Wainui for shipment to Gisborne. They are expected to arrive at Gisborne on Wednesday. OPOSSUM SKIN SALE PRICES AT DTJNEDIN Messrs. Dalgety and Company, '■■Limited, have received the following telegram from their D'unedin office as i follows:—"At the opossum skin sale held yesterday, 50,000 skins were offered, our offering comprising 35,000. A Keystone drill which has operated on freehold land on Cromwell Flat, Otago, for some time has been taken out of the district. Interest, in the repegging of mining privileges on Cromwell Flat, vanished as quickly.as it. arose. The applications over the areas have been withdrawn. ~.
