£SO FINE IMPOSED
INTOXICATED MOTORIST WARNING BY MAGISTRATE (Per Press Association.) NELSON, this day. Mr. T. K. Maunsell, S.M., gave reserved judgment to-day in a case in which Boss Newman was charged that while in a state of intoxication he was in charge of a motor vehicle on the Nelson-Stoke main highway. In convicting the defendant, the magistrate said offences of this nature seemed to be on the increase, due to the fact that modem cars were so highpowered and' smooth running that young people did not realise when they had taken liquor the >dange*oud machine they were in charge of. It seemed to him that the time was not far off when he would have to impose a term ol imprisonment in such cases. Unless drivers were abstemious, hardship must follow.
A fine of £SO was imposed', and the license cancelled during the current term.
