Ward objected lo unwilling unionists being compelled to contribute to the funds of political parties, and moved an amendment setting out that, members of a society should lie given particulars of any resolution before a ballot was taken, and also that no member should be penalised if he did not wish lo contribute. The Hon. M. Connelly opposed the amendment. The Hon. R. Masters said the bill only made legal what was being done at present. Homo institutions contri buted to political objects without a shareholders’ meeting. The Hon. R. MeCalhim opposed contributions to political objects. Tim Mon. V. Ward withdrew his amendment and the bill was passed.
