WAITING FOR AUSTRALIA
ATTITUDE IN TOKIO TREATY TALK RESUMPTION “BLUSTER” OF MR. LYONS (F.loc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 20, noon) " TOKIO 1 , Aug. 19. Replying to the broadcast address of tho- Prime Minister of Australia, Air. J. A. Lyons, a Japanese 'Government spokesman said that Japan was awaiting Australia’s proposals for the resumption of trade negotiations. He reiterated that the dispute was. the result of Australia’s virtual prohibition of imports of Japanese merchandise. Tokio newspapers regard the broadcast of Mr. Lyons as “bluster” as, while Australia has not shown any indication of budging to enable a resumption of negotiations, it is considered she undoubtedly is worrying a good deal over the prospect of Japan’s abstention from the forthcoming wool sales. It is considered, therefore, that Japan can well afford calmly to wait and let the effect of Japanese absence from the sales sink in.
