SIX-DAY AIR SERVICE . U.s. COMPANY’S PLANS SYDNEY, Aug. 11. Mr. Edward G. Cahill, manager ol public utilities for the City of San h ranciseo, who reached Sydney hv the Mai - posa. yesterday, stated that. no. expected to see an air mail service operating between San Francisco and Sydney on a schedule of at most six days, within a period of 18 months. , Among the undertaking classed as public utilities in the United States, Mr. Cahill said, the provision of air facilities was considered to he ol outstanding importance, and was certainly the one. that had witnessed tlie greatest developments in recent years. Four years ago, when his department took over the San luaneisco airport, there were no air mad seiviccs to the city. To-day 3000 mail planes per month arrived and left- the lMe S cquivalent of almost a million pounds had been spent m providing all modern facilities, including a continuous weather advice service, beam direction signalling devices, and wireless communication with machines in flight, to and from the airport.
