BOXING

PLUTO—ROBERTSON

NEGOTIATIONS IN HAND

G.B.A. PROPOSES MATCH

A proposal to match Watty RobertBon, professional welterweight boxer, with I'lnto, the West Australian champion who has been fighting with substantial success in Now Zealand for the past few weeks, lias been approved by the Executive of the Gisborne Boxing Association, and negotiations With 1 Into have been carried to the stage of telephonic inquiries as to the boxer s terms. Pluto has been doing most of his boxing tinder the auspices of the Auckland association since his advent, in New Zealand, and Watty Robertson has been mentioned in a number of quarters as u suitable opponent for the visitor. 'J he Gisborne association, is anxious to secure a match between Robertson and Pluto for its own followers and supporters in this district, but the financial aspects of the promotion present a problem.

While in Auckland recently a member of the Gisborne executive opened up tentative negotiations for Pluto to fight here. It was hoped that he might be induced to accept a purse within the scope of the local association, which has nut. been fortunate in regard to its finances ill recent- years. The negotiations were followed.up this week, and a telephonic, communication with Pluto this morning failed to achieve the desired engagement.

It is understood that the West Australian, requires expenses for the trip to Gisborne. and the chance of the winning end of a. £SO purse. It is not big money to a pugilist of Pluto's capabilities, especially in view of the demand for his services in inanv parts of the country, but it is a little" more than the Gisborne association can offer, unless special arrangements are made for raising.the money. On previous occasions good results'have been achieved from levies on association members, but the executive is naturally not anxious to adopt this form of financing .if it can be avoided.
