AMERICAN WOMANfine SPORTING RECORD LONDON, April 18. The "wonder woman" of American sport, 54-year-old Miss Eleanor Sears, has come to London. Slim, vigorous, and gay as a girl, this "never-grow-old" is acting as captain to a team of live American, girls who have arrived hero to play against' English girls for squash trophies. Their great, ambition is to win for America the Wolfe-Noel Cup (the Wightman Cup of squash),' now held by England. Miss Sears, is ■' the most vigorous, youthful-looking-woman of 54 (ho writer has ever seen. -Her grey hair, beautifully coiffural, gives..her the appearance of a yoling girl who has gone prematurely grey. Her clothes, so very American and so very smart, add to this illusion, and her voice has still its youthful ring. Her enthusiasm is just as great as it was when she came to London In play at Wimbledon in the lawn tennis championships many years ago.

Not only was she America's first woman champion of squash racquets, but she was equally famous as a tennis player, polo player and walker. For these, and other achievements, she was presented with a cup by American athletes as a token that they regarded her as their most famous sportswoman. Now her team of live have some costume surprises for London. The shorts they have brought, with them are described a>s "very short"—but they will ho allowed to wear them all right if Eleanor Sears has her way.
