Referring to the interest shown by members of the Royal Family in the allotment, scheme for unemployed miners, which he was describing to Gisborne Rotarians to-day, Mr. 11. Crosland, of Manchester, Kngland, remarked that he always enjoyed tolling a story. The present King, when Priri.ee of Wales, had asked for some ■particulars of the scheme, and -when informed that the Society of Friends had been able to help 110,000 people in 1034, he expressed astonishment and asked: "Are they all Quakers?" On being informed 'that the effort was purely undenominational, and. that no reference was made to the beneficiaries'' religious' connections, the then Prince remarked: "Well, all .1 can say is, it's very good of you." Mr. Crosland .smilingly added that he did not; know whether the compliment was deserved.
