BAG SNATCHER CAUGHT

An assault on a woman aged 80 years and an attempt to steal her bag earned six months' gaol to-day for John Henry Sewell Nisbet, aged 24 years, of no fixed abode, when he appeared before Mr, KC, f.evvey. n,M., in the Magistrate's court.

Nisbet pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness and assaulting Ellen Bowley and of attempting to steal a purse and its contents valued at £3 5s from Mrs. Bowley. He was sentenced to goal for three months with hard labour on each of the main charges. Senior 'Sergeant Calwell said that as Mrs. Bow-ley entered the women's rest room in Cathedral Square. Nisbctt stepped out and pulled her fur necklet over her face. She cried for help and Nesbili, snatched her purse. As Nisbet ran off ho was tripped by a man outside and held until tho police arrived.
