QUIETER IN PALESTINE
AGITATION LESSENS BRITISH DEATHS DENIED (British Official Wireless.) Heed. 1.1.5 p.m. RUGBY, May 27. A communique issued at Jerusalem last evening! by the High Commissioner for l’alestine, Sir Arthur Wauehopc, states that the agitation throughout the country had been much quieter during the day and no fresh incidents were reported.
An ollieial communique issued at Jerusalem denies that any British soldier has been killed in the course of the disturbances. Denial is also given to a reporl in circulation In the effect, that a. police patrol had been surrounded hy a mob at (laza and severely beaten.
The communique records sporadic outbreaks of lawlessness in the preceding 24 hours, hut the only casualty had been tile accidental killing of an Arab watchman hy an Arab constable in the village of Lydda. The administration of the Palestine mandate was on the agenda of the League .Mandates Commission, the hallyearly session of which opened at Geneva to-day. A press message says that the commission re-elected as president the Italian member, the Mnrchese Theodoli. who is attending despite Italy’s absentation from League work, since all members of the commission are appointed in their personal capacity, and not as representatives of their respective Governments.
