NORTH CHINA TROUBLE MEANS OF SUPPRESSION OPINION IN COMMONS (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, May 27. The Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, answered a number of questions in the House of Commons on smuggling in northern China. The Foreign Secretary, reiorring to various suggestions for improving the position put forward in the questions, said he thought the best means of checking the smuggling would be provided by the restoration to the Chinese of the preventive agencies and of the normal means of exercising! their authority. So far as he was aware, no other Government., apart irom the Chinese, the British and the United States Governments, had made representations on this subject at lokio. but the British Ambassador was keeping in elose touch with the representatives <d other interested Bowers.

.Mr. Eden added that the attention of the Japanese Government had been called to Ihe detriment caused to legitimate Japanese b.terests in general hy the incidence of wholesale smuggling in North China.
