EARNAI\DO HELPERS (Hernii! Correspondent.) Last Wednesday afternoon a jolly boxopening party was given tor the Barnardo helpers at “Fairfield. Knitaratahi, by the local president. Mrs. R. H. Shanks. Games and competitions were indulged in by the children on the spacious lawns, whilst parents and other guests present availed themselves of the oppor (unity of enjoying the bright sunshine. Alt'. Harris, Ormond, spoke interestingly on the wonderful work ol the Dr. Barnnrdo Homes and exhorted all present to co-operate-, organise and arrange functions in the future to raise funds for such a deserving cause. He explained that all donations, no matter how-small, were very welcome, and he felt sure that all children in the homes would deeply appreciate the support. Tho boxes contained £1 15s 6d. whilst donations received at the garden part) amounted to £1 7s 6d. Kenneth Hatton’s league box contained Hie largest amount, lie having this year qualified for a. silver handled knife, and l'.wen 'stone for a silver badge.

Later a delightful tea was dispensed on (aides arranged on the lawn, the children doing full justice lo (lie dainties provided for them. Afternoon tea was served to the adults fii (lie drawingroom. Mr. and Mrs. F. Pilcher and family left last week-end to reside in Cishorne. —Mrs. A. Soundv, Dannevivke, and Aliss L. Teitjen, Auckland, were recent guests of their sister, Mrs. 11. Ogden, Kaitaratahi.—Miss L. Sutherland, Gisborne, is the guest of Mrs. W. Comm, Waipaoa.— Aliss TJ. Crosswell, Gisborne, is spending hoi; annual holidays with her parents Mr. and Mrs. L. Crossiell. — Mr. A. MrPhail. Knitaratahi. is visiting the South Island.
