MARVELLOUS BELL

RUNG FOR 95 YEARS LONDON', April 4. An electric bell, which has been ringing for almost a century, was one of the exhibits at the Oxford University Museum Staff’s annual exhibition to-night. The bell, which was made in 1 840 —- it is not known hv whom—was moved to Oxford .after it had been ringing for ‘2ft years. ft has not been moved since. Encased in glass, it consists of two cylinders made of copper find .3000 paper discs coated with sulphur. The battery charges itself, and is the nearest tiling to perpetual motion which lias ever been achieved. Nobody can tell how long it will continue to rMig or how soon it will need techarging.
