N.Z. RAMS IN ARGENTINE
HIGH GISBORNE PRICES MR. O. V. SMITH'S LINCOLNS £266 TOP PRICE OF .SALIC Gisborne Lincoln rams sent to the Argentine recently have been sold at high prices, one of them topping one of the chief sales at £260, with others realising down to £BS. These prices were secured for a batch of five Mr. G. V. Smitu, "Waitaria," Patutahi, sold for export through Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, and it is understood that he has a further lot on order for the same destination. Mr. Smith lias received no direct advice concerning the sale of these rams in the Argentine, but the following is taken from the Pastoral Review, an Australian publication:— "Messrs. P. and G. Hughes held a sale of New Zealand-bred Lincoln and Romney Marsh rams ,at 'Buenos Aires early in February.
"Lincolns were in good demand, the 11 rams sold averaging 142.1 dollars per head, which at the conversion rate of 1," dollars to £l, is equal to £oo. "The top price, £2(50, was paid for the Waitaria 58, bred by Mr. G. V. Smith, being one of the first prize group at the New Zealand Royal Show at Hastings in 1935. Other rams from Mr. Smith's flock realised £llO, £O3, and £BS. ' '
"Rams bred by Mr. Eric T. Wilton sold to £l2O. The Romneys met a poor market. Seven changed hanus at an average of about £20."
