Hundreds of applications have been received for positions as inspectors of factories, scaffolding inspectors and shearers' accommodation inspectors, which are to be filled shortly with the object of securing a more rigid observance of the labour laws. A number of new inspectors will be appointed, but they will not exceed a dozen, and the, filial choice will rest with the Public'Service Commissioner. The Conciliation Commissioner is also to be appointed. At present there are two commissioners, Mr. P. Tlally for the North Island, and Mr. Ritchie for the South Island, bin for some months Mr. Rally has been prevented from carrying out his duties owing to ill; aess.
