LABOURERS ON FARMS
PAY AND ACCOMMODATION LEGISLATION DEFERRED RUSH OP OTHER BILLS (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Agricultural Labourers' Accommodation Amendment Bill, which will give legislative effect to the arrangement entered into between the Government and the Farmers' Union representatives in regard to wages and conditions of workers on dairy farms, may not be passed before the break in the session, about the end of this month, owing to the rush of other business to be dealt with.
The .Minister of Labour, the Hon, 11. T. Armstrong, said to-day that the bill would be a consolidation of the existing legislation dealing with accommodation of farm labourers, with the addition of provisions giving effect to the .arrangement made with the Farmers' Union representatives. It was tied up with the gnnranteed-prico plan, and would come into operation on August 1, so there was really no necessity to rush it through before the break in the session.
Apart from fixing wages and conditions of workers on dairy farms, the bill will bring tip to dale the legislation regarding the accommodation of shearers ,and other farm workers. It will consist of about 20 clauses, most, of which will be brought forward from the existing legislation.
