TOKOMARU BAY NEWS
BADMINTON (Herald Correspondent.) Badminton in Tokomaru Bay already appears to be very popular, and 20 enthusiasts attended Te Puka Hall on Wednesday evening to enjoy a number of games. During the evening opportunity was taken to form the club, and a general meeting was held. Mr. A. Gardner was elected to the chair pro tern, and the election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. W. L. Wheeler; chairman, Mr. V. Cullinane; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Gardner; club captain, Mr. M. Alexander. It was decided to elect a committee comprising three ladies and three men, and the following were elected: MeSdames G. Chalmers and Beattie, Miss 'D. Pepper and Messrs. G. Chalmers, D. Bullock and M. Murray. An extra charge of 3d per night, over and above the expense fee of Is, was' decided upon, as it was proposed that refreshments should be served. .Mr. Alexander stressed the fact that subscriptions should be paid on the spot as the club had expenses of the gear to meet.
Two nights a week were decided upon for playing, and, provided the hall is vacant, Mondays and Wednesdays were approved. The time of starting was set down at 7 p.m. and of stopping at 10 p.m.
Mr. H. Gardner offered to procure a blackboard to erect in the hall on playing nights to put down the names of the players*. Mr. Cullinane was instructed to approach Mr. Wheeler to ask him if the club could store its net and racquets at the hall and for a suitable place. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
