GIRL LOSES MEMORY

EFFECT OF ACCIDENT MOTHER OBTAINS DAMAGES MELBOURNE, April 8. According to evidence given in the County Court to-day, a girl of 15 after she had been injured in a motor accident, suffered a complete loss of memory and could remember nothing that had happened before* the accident. She could not remember how to read or write, or the names or uses of common objects. The girl was Jean Stuart Graham, 15, of Yarraville. Through her mother she sued Bertram Alfred Yewers, carrier, of Yarraville, for £449 damages. The girl was a passenger in a motor van driven by Yewers when it. overturned in Footscray in March, 1935, and she alleged that the accident was caused by Yewers’ negligence. Mrs. Graham .said that when the van overturned, her daughter suffered a fractured skull. Sinee the accident the whole of her daughter’s life up to three days after the accident was a complete blank to her. She had had to learn again how to read and write and the names and uses of common objects. A doctor had stated that her daughter was suffering from retrograde amnesia. Mr. P. I). King, who appeared ior plaintiff, said that the case had been settled, and he asked Judge Magcnnis to enter judgment for £250. His Honour sanctioned the settlement and entered judgment.
